It’s easy to understand why Stella Standingbear’s “Home Runs” is earning accolades galore and making her a TikTok sensation. The catchy, relatable song serves as an affirmation anthem for anyone who has proved the haters wrong by achieving their dreams — a common theme for Native Americans, who face outsized obstacles like ongoing discrimination, education gaps, and high rates of poverty, disease, addiction, and suicide.

Back in August, Stella Standingbear traveled to Canada to the International Indigenous Hip Hop Awards show as she was nominated for three different awards. She won two of the three awards that she was nominated for, Best Female Hip Hop Artist for her song “Home Run” and Best Music Video for her song “Home Runs”.

“I want to inspire others to make their dreams a reality, no dream is too big for anyone to achieve,” said Standingbear.

Native artists with local ties soon to perform at Levitt

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Live music sounding out from the Levitt Shell in Sioux Falls has become a staple of the South Dakota summer.

“Music is everything to me,” said Stella Standingbear, who will perform at the venue on Saturday. “It’s something that I’ve known that I wanted to do since a very young age and started doing at a young age. It’s my outlet. It’s the way that I could express myself. It’s almost like my diary.”

The 24-year-old Standingbear lives on the Pine Ridge Reservation and is a member of the Oglala Lakota Sioux Tribe.

“My music is taking me there, and it seems like a great venue, too,” she said. “It’s a outdoor venue, so looking forward to that.”

Growing up, Stella has been very passionate about music, making music and wants to help heal with the music that she creates. Standingbear represents her people, the Lakota Nation, and is very devoted to the MMIW movement. Standingbear strives to become successful with her music, she wants to be able to give back to her community, to be able to have a voice to speak out in the communities and to be a positive role model for the new generations. Music is her way to express herself best and is grateful to be given so many opportunities to spread positive messages.
